Neurofeedback Therapy in Edmond & Oklahoma City

Your brain built the patterns that keep you anxious, distracted, or awake at 3 a.m. It can build better ones. Neurofeedback at Journey Counseling Center in Edmond trains your brain to regulate itself, using real-time feedback instead of willpower.

And because we're a full counseling practice minutes from Oklahoma City, your brain training comes with something standalone clinics can't offer: licensed therapists and psychiatric care in the same office.

How does neurofeedback work?

Neurofeedback is a workout for your brain's self-regulation. Sensors on your scalp read your brain's electrical activity while you watch a movie or relax quietly. When your brain produces the patterns you're training toward, the feedback rewards it instantly. Repeat that a few hundred times per session, and your brain starts finding that state on its own.

Sessions are comfortable and non-invasive. Nothing goes into your brain; the sensors only listen. Training starts with a thorough brain assessment: three appointments that measure your brain's electrical activity and map your symptoms. Your training protocol is built from your assessment, so it targets your patterns instead of a generic template.

Who neurofeedback helps

People come to neurofeedback for different reasons:

  • ADHD and focus — the best-researched use, for kids and adults

  • Anxiety and racing thoughts that won't respond to logic

  • Sleep that never feels deep enough

  • Peak performance for athletes, executives, and students

  • Trauma recovery, alongside therapies like EMDR

Why do neurofeedback at Journey?

First, the team behind our neurofeedback program has delivered more than 100,000 training sessions, and every neurofeedback clinician is also a licensed mental health professional. In their clinical experience, 80 to 90% of clients report cutting their most troubling symptoms in half or better.

Second, brain training works best as part of a bigger plan. At Journey, neurofeedback can run alongside licensed therapists and our psychiatric PA, so training, therapy, and medication decisions can all pull in the same direction.

If what's driving your symptoms needs more than training, your therapist can be right down the hall or already part of your team. If you hope to reduce medication as your brain regulates, that conversation happens with a prescriber who already knows you.

Frequently asked questions about neurofeedback

Is neurofeedback evidence-based?

Neurofeedback has decades of research behind it, with the strongest results for ADHD and growing evidence for anxiety and sleep. Results vary from person to person, and anyone promising a cure is overselling. We'll assess whether it fits your situation and tell you honestly if it doesn't.

How many sessions will I need?

Most clients train two to three times per week, with sessions lasting about 45 minutes, and meaningful programs run a few months. Lasting change comes from repetition, the same way physical training does. Many people notice early shifts in sleep or calm within the first several weeks.

Does neurofeedback replace therapy or medication?

For some people it reduces what they need over time. For others it works best alongside therapy, medication, or both. Never change medication on your own; at Journey, that conversation happens with our psychiatric PA in the same office as your training.

Is neurofeedback safe for children?

Yes. Neurofeedback is non-invasive and generally well tolerated by kids, and ADHD in children is its best-studied use. Parents stay involved at every step, and we'll tell you plainly whether your child is a good candidate.
