OCD Therapy in Edmond & Oklahoma City

OCD is treatable, and you don't have to figure it out alone. At Journey Counseling Center in Edmond, our team includes therapists who specialize in OCD and a psychiatric PA who manages medication, all in one office. If intrusive thoughts, rituals, or endless checking have taken over your day, we can help you take it back.

What are the signs of OCD?

OCD has two parts. Obsessions are unwanted thoughts, images, or fears that keep returning no matter how hard you push them away. Compulsions are the behaviors and mental rituals you repeat to quiet the anxiety.

Common signs include:

  • Washing or cleaning long past the point of clean

  • Checking locks, appliances, or messages again and again

  • Needing things to feel "just right" before you can move on

  • Intrusive thoughts about harm, contamination, morality, or relationships

  • Mental rituals like counting, reviewing conversations, or repeating phrases

  • Asking loved ones for constant reassurance

Most people with OCD know the fear doesn't add up. The doubt wins anyway. That's how the disorder works, and it responds to treatment.

How we treat OCD

The most effective treatment for OCD is exposure and response prevention (ERP), a form of cognitive behavioral therapy. In therapy, you'll map the cycle that keeps OCD in charge, then practice facing your triggers without performing rituals, at a pace you and your therapist set together.

The International OCD Foundation reports that about 70% of people with OCD improve with ERP, medication, or both.

Our therapists who specialize in OCD include Sheldon Adkins, M.Ed, LPC-S, and Summer Lashley, M.Ed, LPC. You can meet at our Edmond office or through teletherapy anywhere in Oklahoma.

Do I need medication for OCD?

Many people improve with therapy alone. Others get the best results from therapy and medication together, especially when symptoms are severe. We offer psychiatric medication management in the same office as your therapist, so your care team works from one playbook.

Frequently asked questions

How long does OCD therapy take?

Everyone moves at their own pace, but ERP is structured and skills-based, so you'll know early whether it's working. Many clients notice real progress within the first few months. Your therapist will set clear goals with you from the start and track them together.

Do you treat children and teens with OCD?

Yes. Several of our therapists work with children, teens, and families. OCD often begins in childhood or adolescence, and early treatment keeps rituals from taking over school, friendships, and family life. If you're a parent who's worried, we can help you find the right next step.

What if my intrusive thoughts feel too shameful to say out loud?

Intrusive thoughts are symptoms. Our therapists have heard every kind, including thoughts about harm, sexuality, morality, and faith, and they know these thoughts say nothing about who you are or what you want. You can share them at whatever pace feels safe.
