Brainspotting Therapy in Edmond & Oklahoma City

You've told your story more times than you can count, and the tightness in your chest still hasn't moved. Talk therapy helped you understand what happened. It didn't get you unstuck.

Brainspotting works differently — it reaches the part of your brain where trauma and stress actually live, below the reach of language. Our Edmond therapists use it to help clients release what years of talking couldn't touch, without asking you to relive every detail out loud.

How does Brainspotting work?

Brainspotting was developed by psychologist David Grand in 2003, built on a simple idea: where you look affects how you feel. Your therapist helps you find a specific eye position — a "brainspot" — connected to whatever you're carrying, whether that's an anxious spiral, a memory that won't settle, or a knot of tension that never fully releases. You hold that gaze while your therapist guides you through what surfaces.

No performance, no forced narrative. Your brain does the processing; your therapist helps you get out of your own way. Sessions typically run 30 to 90 minutes, and many clients notice a shift after the first one.

Who Brainspotting helps

Brainspotting can be helpful for people with a wide variety of conditions. While it's commonly thought of as a treatment for trauma, that's just one of the reasons why people seek it out for therapy.

  • Trauma and PTSD, including experiences you've never fully put into words

  • Anxiety, panic, and chronic tension that hasn't responded to willpower alone

  • Grief that feels stuck rather than moving

  • Burnout and perfectionism, especially the performance pressure that keeps high achievers wound tight

  • Physical symptoms with no clear medical cause — tension headaches, a jaw that won't unclench, a stomach that's always in knots

Frequently asked questions about Brainspotting

Is Brainspotting evidence-based?

Research on Brainspotting is still developing, but early studies show it performing on par with EMDR for trauma and PTSD symptoms, often in fewer sessions. We use it as one tool among several, matched to what actually works for you. Read more about the research.

How is Brainspotting different from EMDR?

Both use eye positioning to help you process what's stuck. EMDR follows a structured set of eye movements; Brainspotting holds a single spot and lets your body lead the pace. Many of our therapists use both.

Do I have to talk about my trauma in detail?

No. Brainspotting doesn't require you to narrate what happened. Your therapist tracks your body's response — you don't have to relive it out loud to heal from it.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on what you're working through. Some clients feel real movement in one to three sessions; others use Brainspotting alongside ongoing therapy for deeper or long-standing patterns.
